I am because we are | 150 Posters For Solidarity
La Rotonda della Besana, Milano
Project
Ubuntu, or “human kindness,” is a unifying term within several humanist philosophies that describes “the quality of being human.” But the meaning of Ubuntu goes beyond simple kindness. Ubuntu embodies the ideas of connection, of community, and of mutual caring for all. Ubuntu states that, “a person is a person through other people,” or, “I am, because of you.”
50 professional designers from all over the world, 50 students and 50 children were asked to design a poster around this South African concept. The show was created and curated by the famed Italian Graphic Designer Armando Milani.
Poster Description
This graphic depicts a mother breastfeeding her child, represented here as a white dove. As it grows, the dove-child will become a messenger to humankind of Ubuntu, spreading the compassion and values that have nourished it from childhood.
